- 1. The Early Stages

The Battle of Gettysburg - A: The reason for the Union blockade of the Confederate ports was to prevent them from trading to the world, but the confederate used blockade runners to try and get around the blockade.
- B: When Davis and Lee invaded the North they expected the North to accept the South's independance.
- C: The Battle of Antietam was a crucial victory for the Union because it stopped the South from getting international recognition and support. It also convinced Lincoln that slavery in the South had to end.
- 2. The Turning Point
- A: Vicksberg, Mississippi was an important location for the Confederacy because it was marjority Conferderate and it was an important defencive position for them also.
- B: When Lee was defeated at the battle of Gettysburg there were more than 50,000 American's killed or wounded. It was also the turning point of the war in the East.
- C: The Sherman's March to the Sea was so destructive because they set fire to almost everything in their path destroying more the 1/3 of Atlanta.
